![]() I saw a large sandy-coloured cat which I later dentified as a mountain lion on Nightingale Lane, Little Chalfont in the spring of 2005. I had just turned in a slight bend in the road when I saw the animal crossing directly in front of me, before it disappeared into the hedgerow of what I assume was somebody's garden. It was mid morning, I was in my car on my way to my teaching job in a college and did not have the time or space to stop, although I was utterly stunned; shaking and exclaiming aloud. If I had come round the bend two seconds earlier I would have hit it and I had the distinct feeling that I, rather than would have come off worse. Needless to say everyone I've told thinks this was my imagination working overtime, but I am quite clear about what I saw and subsequent googling of images simply confirmed it.

A couple of lecturers had reported a similar sighting in the grounds of what was then the Buckinghamshire College of Higher Education (Newland Park campus) about ten years previously, to the Dean's huge displeasure. There were armed police searching the campus and a helicopter circulating overhead for the next couple of hours.
